His father, Tony Marshall, wore a UCLA sweatshirt.
Marshall spent time talking with current USC sophomore safety Su'a Cravens.
And that's starting to look how this recruitment will go, anyone's guessing game, until the five-star prospect makes his college announcement planned for National Signing Day.Louisville, says he's just collecting offers and is in no rush to narrow the list down. He told Scout it's a level playing field for any program that wants to recruit him.
"At this point, all of them are equally balanced right now," Marshall said. "[Programs] are trying to get their recruiting together, it's early in the process, so they're just trying to get everything together. I'm expecting more people to get in contact with me later on in the year, but right now it's all equal.
The 6-foot-1 190-pound No. 2 cornerback in the 2015 class would not say if any one program is recruiting him harder than another.
"All of them is showing me the same amount of love," he said. "So I don't want to say anybody is standing out more than others."
Scout insiders believe USC is a childhood favorite team and will be one to beat. However, education will play a large role in Marshall's decision and it would be hard to ignore an offer recently extended from Stanford.
"Academics are the top priority on my list right now," explained Marshall. "It's education first and being a student athlete, that's what me and my dad talk about. Making sure my grades are on point and then worrying about football next. But that's what is most important – school, and understanding the program that is going to best fit me, not just in football but, academically and give me the foundation to be successful in life."
When asked about the local programs, UCLA and USC, Marshall said:
"I'm liking the Bruins. I like what [coach] Jim Mora is doing with the squad and how they're revolutionizing the UCLA team and atmosphere."
"I like USC, they have a wonderful staff coming down from Washington, seeing how they turned Washington around in a couple years, seeing what they are going to do with their big recruits that they got, [Long Beach (Calif.) Poly safety] Juju Smith, [Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback] Adoree Jackson, [Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman] Damien Mama, see how they play – see what they do this year."
Already a top name in the 7on7 circuit, Marshall says this spring and summer he has much to improve on, including his explosiveness and proving he can create turnovers.
"[I'm working on] showing that I can attack the ball more and just showing the ability that I can play off the ball and dominate as well as me pressing," he said. "Showing that I can go up and attack the ball at the highest point."
More from Marshall…
Marshall on his relationship with USC 2014 signee and high school teammate Juju Smith: He just says "Go ‘SC", "Fight On!" That's all he tells me, "Fight On".
Marshall on his relationship with USC sophomore safety Su'a Cravens: We're just talking about just about the all-star games, stuff like that, just football, chatting it up and seeing how each other is doing and stuff. He's a friend of mine, we've been friends for a couple years since we both have been on the circuit. We've been talking together and competing against each other and what not.
