USC coaching bond goes back with Kirk

2015 Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro receiver Christian Kirk was in Los Angeles (Calif.) to participate in the Nike Football Training Camp over the weekend. Scout caught up with Kirk to break down his recruitment...

2015 Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro receiver Christian Kirk picked up his first scholarship offer the summer after this freshman year of high school.

Now, the Scout four-star recruit says it feels good to finally be in the home stretch of his recruitment.

The nation's No. 4 rated receiver, Kirk has over 20 scholarship offers. He has yet to narrow his list, but tells Scout he will do so with a top ten coming out during spring football.

Kirk, 5-foot-10 195-pounds, has been no stranger to Los Angeles recently. He took unofficial visits to both USC and UCLA just a couple weeks ago.

"They were both good visits," Kirk told Scout at the L.A. Nike Football Training Camp. He met both USC coach Steve Sarkisian and UCLA coach Jim Mora for the first time on the trip.

"Sark is a cool guy," he said. "I love how he thinks offensively."

Kirk's relationship with the USC staff dates back to their tenure at Washington.

"My main recruiter is [recruiting coordinator/linebackers] Coach [Peter] Sirmon," Kirk explained. "The day he got the USC job, he came back to my school. One day he was there in UW stuff, then in USC stuff.

"They've come at me hard with that relationship."

The Trojans are looking to sign two to three receivers in their 2015 class. Kirk is a top target.

There's little doubt both USC and UCLA will make Kirk's top ten. Also likely to make the cut is Texas A&M. The Aggies snagged 2014 No. 1 quarterback Kyle Allen from the state of Arizona. Allen and Kirk are in constant communication, "he texts me all the time," Kirk said. "Its an inside look to the program."

Kirk has no immediate plans for unofficial visits or camps this summer, with exception of The Opening. He told Scout he will not be playing on the 7on7 circuit.
