USC will be by to see Kirk

The Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro four-star receiver, Christian Kirk, is closing in on 40 offers...

With nearly 40 offers to his name, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro receiver Christian Kirk (5-11, 195), is running out of top tier programs to get an offer from.

"I think I'm pretty set with who all I think could offer," said Kirk. "Utah was my most recent offer. I think I'm at 37 (offers) now."

Since spring ball started at Saguaro last week, Kirk said a number of schools have come by and will still be coming in the next couple of weeks.

"We've had Texas A&M, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and UCLA come in," said Kirk. "USC is coming by this week, Coach (Tee) Martin and Coach (Peter) Sirmon. And Coach (Lane) Kiffin from Alabama is coming by. Notre Dame and Michigan State too. On May 16th for our Spring Game, Coach (Eric) Yarber (from UCLA) is coming."

A number of schools have prioritized Kirk.

"Recruiting me the hardest, I would say USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Georgia, Auburn and Arizona State," said Kirk.

Kirk said he'll whittle his list down to around 10 schools come summer time.

"I want to take a couple more visits to some East Coast schools and then I'll narrow it down to 10 in summer, then from there, a top five where I'll visit," said Kirk. "Most of the schools I've visited are right now, schools I'm interested in.

Kirk said he's hoping to see Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee in the coming months, though nothing is set in stone yet.

Seeing where his recruitment has gone in just the last nine months, let alone 2.5 years from his first offer, has been eye opening for Kirk.

"I didn't ever expect it to be like this," said Kirk. "Coming into the spring of my sophomore year, going into my junior year, right before spring ball, I had four offers. People said I'd have 40 when it's all said and done and now I'm close."

After nearly winning WR MVP honors at the Oakland NFTC in May 2012 as a freshman, Kirk finally won that award at the 2013 L.A. NFTC. He ultimately earned an invitation to The Opening, one of just a handful of sophomores selected.

He's already received another invitation to The Opening, where he and Iman Marshall, who was also selected a year ago, plan to show their experience.

"Me and Iman, we'll be vets and we know how it goes, so we'll guide other guys on everything there," said Kirk. "Getting to The Opening last year was a big deal. That was pretty much the turning point in the whole thing. That was a dream of mine, to make it to The Opening, but then to go as a sophomore, I didn't think it could be done. I was doubting myself and it definitely turned out to be an awesome feeling."

Academically, Kirk has a 3.5 GPA.
