USC offer 'A big thrill' for Sidney

There wasn't a more impressive player at the recent B2G 7v7 Tournament than La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat 2016 two-way standout Trevon Sidney.

We first saw Trevon Sidney last summer at the Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison Passing Tournament in July and he was very impressive, on both sides of the ball.

He was equally good with the pads on. In a game we attended against a very good Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany team, Sidney had two touchdowns and two interceptions and flashed the kind of big play explosiveness that will make him an easy top 100 prospect in the 2016 class.

Sidney has created as much buzz as some other players this spring, simply because he doesn't play for one of the more well know 7v7 programs.

"I'm playing for TNT," Sidney said. "Basically, me and some of my friends made up our own team, found a coach and decided to play in some tournaments. It has been a lot of fun and I'm really enjoying playing with these guys. We're all friends so it's cool and I'm just out here trying to get better.

"I've been working hard in the weight room, trying to get bigger and stronger. I'm about 6-0, 168 pounds right now. I don't have time to run track but I'm doing speed training on my own a couple of days a week so I'm working hard right now."

On the recruiting front, Sidney has offers from UCLA, USC, Miami and Utah.

"UCLA was my first offer and that was big for me," Sidney said. "You never forget your first one and I talk to Coach Martin all the time. I went to a USC spring practice and they offered me and Tyler (Vaughns) so that was a big thrill as well. Tee martin is my main recruiter and both local schools are coming at me really hard.

"Miami and Utah have also offered and I'm hearing from a lot of other schools as well. This summer, I plan to camp at Alabama and Stanford and I'll do the local ones to USC and UCLA too. I went to both schools Spring Games and had a really good time at both places.

"USC has a much faster tempo this year and they look a lot better. They play fast and I like that. UCLA's game was way better than last years. Last year, the game was more of a practice but they went out all out this year, it was like a real game and everyone was real animated."

As for a decision timeline, Sidney said he's not close to narrowing thing down.

"I plan to play this out and take my official visits during my senior season," Sidney said. "I'm open to everyone right now and don't have any leaders. I have a lot of time so I want to watch these teams play on the field and then see where I think I'll fit in the best."
