USC has picked up its newest commitment in the 2015 recruiting class...
coach Steve Sarkisian picked up his sixth commitment in the 2015 recruiting class on Tuesday when Jacob Daniel
pledged to the Trojans.
"Officially committed to USC," Daniel told Scout.
The Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North defensive tackle adding that it "just felt right" to make the early decision.
"I did it when it felt right," he explained. "I gave Coach Sarkisian a call this morning and told him I was joining 'The Family'.
"I've put a lot of thought into it, today was just finally – I just came to my conclusion. USC is where I want to spend the next four to five years."
Daniel, 6-foot-4 310-pounds, says his future head coach took the news well, "[Sarkisian] was excited and seemed really happy," he said.
So was Daniel's recruiter, defensive line coach Chris Wilson. Wilson was actually on the Clovis North campus this morning when Daniel decided to deliver the good news to Los Angeles.
The recruitment came down to USC and Oregon for the four-star defensive tackle, rated as the No. 40 overall prospect in the Scout 100.
"[USC] is closer to home and all of my family is down there," Daniel said, "so I want to be close to my family."
He also wants to play on the interior of Wilson's defensive line.
National Signing Day is still nine months away, but Daniel says his commitment to USC is "100 percent solid."
"No, I won't take other visits," Daniel responded, when asked if he'll still check out other schools.
He says he will most likely be back to USC this summer with his high school teammates to camp with the Trojans. He'll take his official to USC in the fall.
Daniel is the first defensive line commit in the 2015 USC recruiting class.
