Alex Ligon update

An update on recruit Alex Ligon

Linebacker is a position of need in recruiting this year for Coach Carroll and staff and this is reflected in the fact that we have seen USC in on a number of prospects from all over the country. One recruit that the Trojans are in on is from their own backyard however. His name is Alex Ligon from North Torrance High School.

At 6'3" and 225 lbs., Ligon is built like a prototypical linebacker. His 4.6 40 time gives testament to the fact that he also posseses the speed to play big time college football. More important than these numbers is the fact that Ligon gets it done on the field. Last year, he had an incredible 147 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. Ligon is a very instinctual player who just has a nose for the ball.

Ligon is just starting to see his recruitment heat up. He currently lists his top 5 as USC, Colorado, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon. However, Ligon did note that out of those top 5, three do stand out, "It's kind of up there between USC, Colorado, and UCLA." Out of that group, Colorado has already offered. In discussing the factors he is looking at in choosing a school, Ligon stated "I look for the location, and then I look for what kind of academics they provide for you at the school, and then the team's coaching staff." He also explained that he plans on taking all of his trips before committing anywhere. Of interest to Trojan fans is the fact that Kirby Wilson is the coach who Ligon hears from most from USC's staff.

Ligon just started two-a-days on Monday, but he came into camp in great shape after a very busy summer. He explained that he kept busy "lifting a whole lot and running sprints a lot this summer." The last time he maxed, he put up 325 on bench, 450 on squat, and he powercleaned 300. He also briefly talked about two camps he attended, "I went to a couple of camps at USC and Colorado this summer to develop my skills a little more. They were cool. Both of them one day camps and I learned a lot from both schools." Expect to hear a lot more on Alex Ligon in the coming months.
