Darian Owens is one of the top receivers in the 2016 class and currently rated the No. 84 player in the country. He put on a show at the Oakland NIKE Camp showing off a nice combination of both quickness and top end speed, a burst out of his breaks, great hands and body control.
Owens and his 7v7 team, DB Guru, took part in USC's passing tournament Sunday and it gave the athlete a chance to get a close up look at the campus.
"Man I loved it there," Owens said. "The tournament ended in kind of a bitter note the way we lost but overall, it was a great experience. I had a good tournament, I had two touchdowns in every game we played and had three in one game.
"I was also playing safety and the coaches told me they liked me on both sides of the ball. After the tournament, I took a tour of the facilities and saw the locker room and weight room and it was really impressive."
Owens said the Trojans coaching staff made a big impression as well.
"Coach Helton is my primary recruiter and he's real cool," Owens said. "I got to sit down with Coach Sark and Coach Heyward and it was great talking with those guys as well. USC has already offered me and the coaches made it pretty clear they would be happy to have my commitment whenever I was ready to do it.
"I don't want to rush anything but I do like USC a lot and felt very comfortable there. I've always liked USC, I was basically born in a Trojan family, everyone roots for USC in my family. I'm not ready to do it just yet though.
