USC fall camp opens in three weeks on Aug. 4 and the return of football can't come soon enough for sophomore Justin Davis.

The tailback has been sidelined since Oct. 19, when he suffered a season ending ankle injury at Notre Dame.

Through the first seven games of his Trojan career, the five-star recruit ran for 361 yards on 53 carries, including six touchdowns.

The tailback competition will be one to watch carefully through fall camp.

The injury to Davis opened the door for redshirt sophomore tailback Buck Allen to make a name for him self in Cardinal and Gold - and that he did.

Allen, once buried at fourth on the depth chart, carried the ball 135 times for 785 yards, including 14 touchdowns in 14 games played. He also caught the ball 22 times for 252 yards, including a touchdown.

USC will have a stable of three tailbacks returning who have gained valuable experience, including Davis, Allen and Tre Madden.

The Trojans will also return redshirt senior D.J. Morgan, who did not see action in 2013 due to a knee injury.
