Friday practice quick slant

Justin Davis saw the majority of carries Friday with Buck Allen and Tre Madden getting some rest after a long day at the Coliseum Thursday

  • Nose guard Antwaun Woods injures his left elbow in a one-on-one offensive one drill. Woods left the field and had his elbow rapped on the sidelines. X-rays were negative, Sark said, and it’s not a major injury. However is appears that Woods could be out one to two weeks.

  • Pat Haden comes by to say he misspoke Thursday. The new reconfigured end zone will cost USC some seats. Final number for official capacity yet to be determined.

  • Sr. Assoc. AD Steve Lopes comes by to say they'll lose less than 1,000 after counting the seats added for the new field level suites.

  • Another full set of Pac-12 officials at tap Friday.

  • Cody Temple says he was the one who forced his teammates to run with the tailback tackle Thursday in the Coliseum.

  • Former USC players at practice Friday include Thomas Williams, Tony Burnett (after a couple of games at safety in Canada with the BC Lions), Kris O'Dowd and Zach Kusnir, who is about to start with a new wealth management company here in LA after getting his MBA.

  • First ovation of the day went to Randall Telfer for a diving catch in front of the fans. It’s a beautiful roll out right play action throwback for 40 yards to Telfer. It looked like the old way Pete's teams opened until the throwback by Kessler.

  • Some quick-footed throws by Kessler to avoid sackers as he hit Nelson Agholor on some short routes. Hayes Pullard does sack Kessler one time in the team session.

  • Equipment Item: the one-man sled that slips and slides and rolls away in the open field making tacklers keep moving their legs and feet.

  • Max Browne gets  full session leading the second offense with a nice toss to Jahleel Pinner on the run.

  • USC practiced a Oklahoma type one-on-one "Pride" tackling drill for the defensive backs, wide receivers, tight ends and linebackers, offense against defense.

  • Linebacker Quinton Powell opens the second rounds of 11-on-11 with a pick six off of Max Browne.

  • Play of the day on offense: with Adoree Jackson in motion, USC brings Chris Wilson across on a tight end seam route with Kessler hitting him in mid stride as he breaks a couple of tackles before getting pulled down after a 55-yard gain.

  • Freshman linebacker Don Hill, sidelined in spring after achilles surgery, had a great tackle in his first official full contact for USC.

  • USC limits carries for Tre Madden and Buck Allen Friday. Justin Davis took a bulk of the carries for the first team offense. Davis missed the spring with an ankle injury.

  • There were no snapping issues for Max Tuerk Friday which is a good sign for USC.

  • With a yellow jersey on, Kevon Seymour got some live reps in team run. He does a good job breaking up an Kessler to Agholor pass early in seven-on-seven play.

  • Field goal competition: Andre Heidari has a four-for-four day to Matt Boermeester's two of four.

  • The team takes off Saturday, goes to the movies, has short meetings while the coaches come in for a long personnel and strategy evaluation session.
