San Jose State game notes

The suspension of Marcell Allmond will hurt for this game but the Trojans should have plenty of WR depth to make up for it against the inexperienced Spartan secondary.....The much discussed moves of Frank Strong and Matt Grootegoed will get an early test as Deonce Whitaker caused fits for the Trojan defense last season and it will be a major responsibility of the OLB's to shut him down.....It would be ideal to have Faeesea Mailo in place at left guard but the coaches have an awful lot of confidence in Norm Katnik to get the job done....Charlie Landrigan is going to play a much bigger role in this offense than most people realize.....When fall camp started Alex Holmes was 3rd on the depth chart at TE and not seeing much action but injuries to Dickerson and Butler gave him an opportunity and he made the most of it by playing extremely well......The match up of the USC defensive line against the solid San Jose State offensive line should be one of the best of the day.....Newcomers expected to play a role in this game include Grant Mattos, Devin Pitts, David Davis, Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson and Bobby Otani.....If Malaefou MacKenzie cannot play we will get our first look at hard running Chris Howard.....Norm Chow is worth all the hype but don't forget that Pete Carroll is known for making terrific game day adjustments as well so it will be quite a treat for Trojan fans to see innovation instead of predictability in our schemes......The peristyle walk by the players as they enter the stadium prior to the game is a fantastic idea
