Four-star WR Steffon McKnight high on Trojans

Four-star receiver Steffon McKnight wasn't able to catch a ride from San Diego for USC's Junior Elite Day, but he still has the Trojans as one of his top teams.

San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa Senior wide receiver Steffon McKnight didn’t get to take advantage of an opportunity to visit USC with a number of his fellow stars in the 2016 class. Even though McKnight got an invitation to USC’s Junior Elite Day, the four-star prospect wasn’t able to make it.

“I didn’t have a ride sadly,” McKnight said. “There will be another opportunity though.”

Just getting an invitation from the USC coaching staff meant a lot to McKnight. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound receiver said the offer to attend the Elite Junior Day shows the Trojans’ interest.

That interest is mutual for McKnight, who lists his top three as USC, Washington and Oregon.

“Honestly, I’m pretty glad that they do have interest in me because I’m actually really interested in going to the University of Southern California,” McKnight said. “I think it would be great to play at USC. I heard that they have great TV time, which I’m really interested in. I’m interested in being a part of that.”

The No. 9 receiver in the West, McKnight is the No. 151 recruit overall in the 2016 class and already holds an offer from USC along with scholarship opportunities at Washington, UCLA, Oregon State and a handful of other West Coast universities. The USC offer stood out for McKnight because it gave him confirmation of his abilities.

“When I got that offer, that was when I first realized that my skills are up to that caliber — that I’m actually good.”

If McKnight were to attend USC, he’s hoping to bring a little San Diego flare with him since he grew up watching fellow SD native Reggie Bush play for the Trojans. For now, he is focused on making himself better. McKnight said he plans to attend the Rising Stars camp at Washington and that he has invites to the Nike Football Training Camps Five-Star Challenge and the Nike’s The Opening.

With a busy upcoming schedule, a visit to USC may seem difficult to squeeze in, but Steffon McKnight said he isn’t worried about the Trojans’ regard for him waning.

“They’re most definitely really interested in me. They’re telling me I would be a great contribution to the team.”
