With quarterback Ricky Town's departure from the program, the Trojans are left with 77 players on scholarship for the 2015 season, 75 of which were recruited and two former walk-ons who were granted scholarships.

However, because Town participated in fall camp for USC the NCAA still considers him a "counter" and he will continue to take up one of the Trojans overall scholarships for the 2015 season. That means USC actually has 78 players on scholarships, with at most seven spots left under the 85 scholarship limit.
USC's overall scholarship number could change again depending the status of a couple of tight ends.
We are currently counting Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick in the overall scholarship number, but Cope-Fitzpatrick's status is still unknown. He has yet to come out to the practice field and if he does not return to the team USC would free up one overall scholarship.
Former offensive lineman Cyrus Hobbi medically retired in the spring of 2014, but he was reintroduced as a walk-on tight end this summer. If Hobbi is granted a scholarship he would count towards USC's overall scholarship number, but he would not be an initial counter because he already counted as part of the class of 2011.
On Sunday Steve Sarkisian also officially introduced the four advanced scholarship recipients or "blueshirts." True freshman wide receiver Deontay Burnett, true freshman offensive lineman Clayton Johnston, true freshman tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe (who will sit out this year after transferring from Florida) and redshirt junior tight end Taylor McNamara transferring in from Oklahoma.
All four players will be initial counters for USC's recruiting class of 2016 and all except Imatorbhebhe are eligible to play this season. With the four blueshirts officially on board, the Trojans are left with just 21 scholarships available for the class of 2016.
