Jack Jones receives an in-home visit from USC

Five-star athlete Jack Jones got an in-home visit from USC Thursday from an unlikely member of the coaching staff.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star athlete Jack Jones proved to be one of the nation’s top prospects with a great week in San Antonio (Texas) playing for the Army All-American West squad, and the college coaches are lined up to visit him this month.

It’s status-quo for Poly, which has produced more pro football players than any other school nationally. What’s not status-quo is the coaching staff situation at USC.

With a staff still unsettled and stretched thin on full-time coaches, USC has taken to sending administrative assistants on the road to recruit. Thursday, the Trojans wasted no time in getting recruiting assistant Gavin Morris on campus at Poly.

“He had to come up and show a little love,” laughed Jones. “He’s a real laid back, chill guy, but when you need someone to talk to, someone to be around you, he’s definitely that guy.

“We had a good talk at school, but we weren’t actually in-home, in the house or anything.”

Morris was a media relations maven for B2G Sports before being hired as an administrative assistant and recruiting analyst for USC.

And while USC just hired Ronnie Bradford as a defensive backs coach this week, the message from the Trojans involving coaching staff has not changed in recent months.

“It’s really the same thing as before,” said Jones. “They want me to play both sides of the ball and feel I can come in and make an impact.

“They don’t see me redshirting at USC. They see me making an immediate impact.”

Jones has long stated he will not officially visit USC or UCLA. However, with several new coaches on staff under Clay Helton, Jones could make an unofficial visit to USC at some point.

“I might make it up there next week,” said Jones. “As of right now, I don’t have a date. I have not talked to any of the new coaches yet.

“I would like to see how their personalities are, but the way things are looking right now, I don’t know that I need to take an unofficial to USC.”

Jones has already officially visited Arizona State and Texas A&M. He is scheduled to visit Alabama this weekend.

“Texas A&M comes in for a visit Tuesday, and pretty much that’s all that’s scheduled,” said Jones. “I have Alabama coming in-home after my visit out there, but i’m not sure when.” Top Stories
