Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive lineman Frank Martin II reconfirmed his commitment to USC during a National Signing Day ceremony at the Mater Dei gymnasium, signing his paperwork while broadcasting parts of the ceremony on Periscope.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pound big man is the No. 1 offensive guard in the state of California and the No. 278 overall prospect in the Scout Top 300. Martin II follows a number of Mater Dei Monarchs that have traded in their red and white for cardinal and gold, including Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, Khaled Holmes and current Trojans Jonathan Lockett and Grant Moore.
Martin II will benefit from having at least a year to learn behind juniors Viane Talamaivao and Damien Mama at the guard positions. Though it isn't assured that he won't begin his career as a tackle where he played in high school. New offensive line coach Neil Callaway gets a versatile player that he will be able to mold.
