Sam Darnold on trying to separate himself in USC's QB competition

Redshirt freshman QB Sam Darnold talks about what he's trying to do to separate himself during USC's quarterback competition.

Sam Darnold was the better quarterback during the first scrimmage of USC's fall camp on Wednesday, but he understands that one solid day will not win him the quarterback competition.

"I'm trying to separate myself, but so is Max, so it's hard," Darnold said. "Things go through my head. 'How can I separate myself? How can I be the guy?'"

Darold realizes it is going to take consistency over the duration of the final week and a half before head coach Clay Helton announces the starter. He is focused on being himself rather than trying to check off some mythical checklist of things that would guarantee him the position.

"I don't think I should change for anyone or do anything different just because I'm in a competition, so I'm going to stay the same," Darnold said. "I feel I'm doing well."

Sam Darnold talks about the things that he's trying to do and how difficult it is to separate himself from redshirt junior Max Browne.
