The buzz around practice today surrounded the commitment of Westlake athlete Jimmy Miller. Jimmy entered the field shortly after practice started with his Westlake coach, Jim Benkert, as well as fellow recruit Michael Stuart (a DE who has offers from Cal and Oregon but would very much like to be a Trojan) and they headed over to the sidelines where Coach Ed Orgeron quickly came over to say hello. Jimmy immediately gave a big smile and said "Coach, I want to be a Trojan", Orgeron gave him a hug and went to bring Coach Carroll over to make it official. Miller can play on either side of the ball as a tight end or defensive end while Benkert said some colleges are even projecting him as a three-technique, the d-line position currently occupied by Shaun Cody. According to Benkert, Jimmy is a good student, a good athlete and the type of player you want to have in your program. The Warriors have sent current players such as Kyle Matthews and Joe Boskovich to SC so there is a good connection to the school.

Another top recruit in attendance was Rocky Hinds. Rocky also received a steady stream of well-wishers while standing along the sidelines and he is clearly comfortable among the Trojan family. He knows many of the players and is up to date on what's going on with the depth chart and recruiting of other players in the class. It remains to be seen if Rocky will end up at USC but there is genuine interest on both sides as Coach Carroll and Coach Sarkisian spent a lot of time talking with him after practice.

As far as the on-field work, the team practiced a lot of special teams today as well as a two-minute drill. I wasn't at practice this morning but I was told that Ryan Kileen put 7 or 8 straight kickoffs into or out of the end zone. This afternoon we saw some punt drills and KO return with Arbet, Bush and Wyatt among those who were returning kicks.

In the two-minute drill, Matt Leinart had a nice drive which featured a completion to Dominique Byrd who received a pop from Brandon Ting and then Matt finished the drive off with a beautiful pass play to Reggie Bush who was wide open for a 30 yard score. Reggie is dynamite, no doubt about it. On that touchdown play, there was some pressure from Manuel Wright who put a nice spin move on Travis Watkins who was seeing action at LG. At one point the offensive line featured a rotation of John Drake at LT, Watkins at LG, Vandermade at center, Matua at RG and Kyle Williams at RT.

Chauncey Washington also had a nice run that broke several tackles...Kevin Arbet had an interception of a pass from Billy Hart...Travis Tofi had a pressure on John David Booty to force an errant pass.
