Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral rallied from a 21-point deficit to take a one-point victory over rival Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian, 37-36, last Friday. The Phantoms mounted their comeback largely on the performances of senior wide receivers Jamire Calvin and Arex Flemings.
The diminuative speedster duo combined for 19 catches and 205 yards with 5-foot-7 three-star Flemings scoring a pair of long touchdowns.
Calvin drew the tough task of being defended by four-star defensive back Deommodore Lenoir, who was able to limit Cathedral's top offensive weapon early, but Calvin got going with some short screen passes that he turned into big gains.
His stock has risen over the last six months. He just recently picked up his fourth star and moved into the Scout 300. The 5-foot-10, 150 pounder is the No. 5 receiver in the state of California and No. 235 overall. He finished with nine catches for 134 yards in the win over Salesian.
Calvin took an official visit to Oregon State earlier this month along with Flemings and other Cathedral teammates. Calvin also has visited Nebraska and plans to take an official to Notre Dame. He is still mulling over his options for his final two official visits and whether he even wants to take them.
The recruiting process has begun to wear on Calvin to an extent and he said he'd like to make a decision soon. At the same time, he's trying to make sure he weighs his options properly and makes the best decision for his future.
