Austin Jackson is the No. 1 rated player in the state of Arizona. The five-star offensive lineman has helped Phoenix North Canyon to a 6-4 record this year after the program won only five games the three previous seasons.
The 6-foot-5, 255 pounder has anchored the left side of the offensive line, protecting the backside of senior quarterback Trevor Leinstock, but also has played defensive tackle for the Rattlers. The team’s success this year has come with some growing pains.
Earlier this month, in a big game against Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep, North Canyon struggled early in the game before finding its bearings in the second half. Unfortunately for the Rattlers, it was too little, too late as Notre Dame Prep won 24-12.
“First half, we didn't come out and do what we had to do and it showed up on the scoreboard,” Jackson said. “Second half, we came out here and got the job done, but some things held us back from the first half.”
Jackson and the offensive line gave Leinstock the time to throw for 302 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Jackson finished with five tackles, including one for a loss. He also lined up at fullback for one play and rushed for three yards.
