Damien Mama got a huge honor after the win over Oregon

USC offensive guard Damien Mama was recognized with a great post game tradition Saturday night in the Coliseum.

Junior offensive guard Damien Mama had an experience of a lifetime following the Trojans 45-20 victory over Oregon in the Coliseum. Mama had the opportunity to climb up on the ladder, grab the sword and lead the Trojan Marching Band as they played Conquest.

"It was a dream come true," Mama said. "You see guys like Reggie [Bush] doing it, Mark Sanchez, Rey Maualuga, so you got to see those guys doing it growing up. It was a lot of fun, I was a little nervous up there, but it was a lot of fun. It was a good moment for me here at USC, I'll always remember that."

Running back Ronald Jones had another huge night, scoring four touchdowns to tie USC's record for touchdowns in a game. But RoJo wanted to share the spotlight with the guys who helped him with his achievement, the offensive line.

"I think they picked RoJo [to lead the band] but then he wanted one of us to do it," Mama said. "I think he gave it to Nico [Falah] and Nico gave it to me. I got to do it and it was an awesome feeling."

After a rocky start to the season, the offensive line is playing much better. Last week both Rojo and Aca'Cedric Ware had career highs in rushing yards and against Oregon the Trojans rushed for 270 yards on 40 carries and didn't give up a sack.

"We're playing good," Mama said. "We have been really cohesive, playing as we should be, just being the veteran group of the team and that is how we like to lead, just by example. Just going out there doing our job and letting it show on the field.

"The continuity is better and we are playing together. We are committing less penalties and making less mistakes and just having fun. You realize that you can't take this game for granted and we have to love every opportunity that we get and take advantage of it. Knowing that this was the second to last time we'll be playing in the Coliseum. you know we had to show out. We love playing in front of our fans and our families."

When the running backs succeed it makes the offensive line happy.

"It is awesome," he said. "It is awesome seeing them have a good day and knowing we had a little bit to do with it. So we always want to see our backs having a great game."

USC has run off five straight wins, but Mama knows they can't get ahead of themselves.

"We have to take it one week at a time," he said. "If we get caught up in all the 'who wins this game or who wins that game' I feel that will end up costing us. So just focusing on Washington now, we'll get in on the film on Monday, watching this game and then getting into the big beast going up north."
