USC moves up to No. 12 in College Football Playoff ranking

Trojans move up one spot in College Football Playoff rankings, coming in at No. 12 in the fourth rankings of 2016.

A blowout in the Crosstown Showdown wasn't enough for the USC Trojans to get a boost in the College Football Playoff rankings this week. The Trojans moved up one spot to No. 12 following their 36-14 pasting of UCLA.

The spot USC gained came because of Utah's loss to Oregon that also gave the Trojans a shot at taking the Pac-12 South title with a little help from the Utes themselves this week. Utah slid down to No. 22 after the loss.

USC sits one spot behind Louisville after the Cardinals slid from No. 5 to No. 11 following a drubbing from Houston. The top four remained the same and the rest of the top 11 teams outside Louisville moved up one spot, pushing Washington one spot outside the College Football Playoff.

The Huskies are right back in the mix. Assuming the loser of Ohio State/Michigan drops out of the top four, Washington can win its way into the playoff if it beats Washington State this weekend and wins the Pac-12 championship game.

With six teams in the top 25, the Pac-12 leads all conferences. Joining Washington and USC in the top 12 is Colorado at No. 9. The Buffaloes control their conference destiny. A win over Utah earns them a Pac-12 South title. The other three Pac-12 teams are stacked together with Utah followed by Washington State, who dropped one spot to No. 23 after losing to Colorado. Stanford remained at No. 24 after a blowout win over California in the Big Game.

Alabama remains atop the standings with Ohio State, Michigan and Clemson trailing behind. Houston jumped into the rankings at No. 20 with their big win while ormer USC interim head coach Ed Orgeron and his LSU team fell out of the top 25. Texas A&M also dropped out after beating UT-San Antonio, 23-10. Taking the Aggies spot at No. 25 is 8-2 Navy. Florida made the biggest jump, moving up eigth spots to No. 15.
