USC hoops moves up one spot to No. 23

Undefeated USC (10-0) moves up one spot in the Associated Press top 25 to No. 23.

USC remains one of only six teams in the nation without a loss, but the Trojans remain the lowest ranked off those six teams. After entering the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll last week, USC moved up just one combined spot in both polls, climbing to No. 23 in the AP poll while remaining No. 25 in the coaches poll.

The Trojans played only once last week and an 82-77 come-from-behind win over Troy wasn't enough to illicit any real movement. But it was an important milestone. According to College Poll Archive's statistics, it was Andy Enfield's first win as a ranked team and USC's first ranked win since the first game of the 2008-09 season when the Trojans beat UC Irvine. A week later they fell out of the top 25 after going 2-2 the next week, losing to Seton Hall and Missouri in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

The Trojans would not be ranked again until last season when they went 0-4 when being ranked on two separate occasions. If the Trojans can sweep the Las Vegas Classic this week with games against Cornell (2-6), Missouri State (7-3) and either DePaul (6-4) or Wyoming (8-2), it will go into Pac-12 play with a perfect 13-0 record and will try to end a streak of nine straight Pac-12 losses while ranked.

The Trojans are one of four Pac-12 teams ranked in the AP top 25, along with No. 2 UCLA -- also undefeated -- No. 18 Arizona and No. 20 Oregon. While there was some movement, no teams fell out of the top 25 this week, so the Pac-12 remains tied for the second most ranked teams behind the ACC (7). The Big East's Villanova remained No. 1 in both polls after a 21-point win over Temple in its only game this week.
