2019 safety Jamal Morris loves Southern California weather, USC visit

IRVINE, Calif. -- Texas safety Jamal Morris finds the beauty in Southern California -- at the beach and on an unofficial visit to USC where he learned about the Trojans' football and academic prowess.

When 2019 Richmond (Texas) George Bush safety Jamal Morris joined his Team Texas Elite 7-on-7 team for a tournament in Southern California, he felt he was getting an opportunity to spread his wings and explore a new area of the country.

“The only thing I knew was Texas and Louisiana,” Morris said. “Getting to see the sights, it's beautiful out here, man. It's beautiful. I visited USC and I really like it out here.”

At 6-foot-2, Morris has the long, lean body type that the Trojans have brought in at the safety position its last couple of recruiting cycles and USC has the type of academic profile that really stands out to Morris.

“They said they were ranked top 15 in the world. It's different from being ranked in America, but if you’re ranked in the world, that's big.

“I like it. It's a private school, so it's really like in a close area,” Morris said. “I love the tradition. The tradition with their rivalry with UCLA, the Notre Dame rivalry. Just a lot going on.

“I love the facilities and the things that they do and I love the academics because they're ranked in the world so I really look forward to that.”

The USC coaches told Morris they liked what they have seen of him and would be watching him going forward.

“They said that they love my film and they love my body frame and my potential that I have, so they said just keep putting it on film and they’re going to be out for spring,” Morris said. “When they would be able to actually contact me, they definitely will contact me.”

Morris also was asked to come back to Los Angeles for one of USC’s summer camps, so the Trojans have an opportunity to see Morris’ skill set in person.

“I'm really checking in and talking to my coaches about that, so I really plan on attending,” Morris said. “I can prove that I can put in on film as well as I can put it in front of you, so if I can get a chance to showcase my real talents in front of the coaches, I think that would be a major boost.”
