The meeting last season between these two teams provided one of the most thrilling games of the year as Hart connected on a last second desperation pass to tie the game at 21-21.
Los Alamitos Griffins
The defending CIF Div 1 champs are loaded once again and are favored as the team to beat this year. They feature 8 starters returning on a solid defense and the usual high powered offense that has been a staple for the Griffins with John Barnes as coach. Here are some players to watch for Trojan fans:
#4 Randy Estes (RB/Safety) – Randy
showed last week why he is considered one of the top players in the country by
running for two touchdowns on offense and returning an interception for a score
on defense. He is big (6-2, 195)
with terrific speed and football instinct.
USC is considered a leader for his services and there are many schools in
the chase including UCLA,
#13 Brooks Rossman (K) – A new arrival to the team, Rossman is a transfer from Torrey Pines with a huge leg.
#2 Cortes Rice (RB) – A hard running back who transferred this past year from Mater Dei and ran for 98 yards in the opener. Cortes is a 6-2, 200 junior.
#1 Jeremy Childs (WR) – One of three junior receivers at Los Al who will be highly recruited next year. Childs is the most polished of the group with good size (6-1, 175) and body control.
#3 Bryan Gordon (WR) – Another
#65 Tom Murphy (OL) – A junior who impressed the Los Al coaches in the opener last week. Tom is 6-1, 260.
#92 Chris Cheri (DE) – His coach compares him to former Griffin Mike Patterson who now stars for the Trojans. Chris is 6-1, 255.
#21 Antoine Cason (CB) – Size (6-2, 182) and good cover skills.
The Indians had won four CIF Div 3
titles before moving to Div 2 last season and losing to
#7 Sean Norton (QB) – Sean has an offer from Wyoming and put up almost 4,000 passing yards last season as the latest in the long line of successful quarterbacks at Hart.
#25 Kevin Ciccone (WR/DB) – A talented player who had 79 catches last season and can also star at corner. Kevin is a terrific route runner.
#47 Brian Elledge (MLB) – Brian (6-3, 210) set a school record last season with 131 tackles.
#35 Dan Howell (RB/CB) – Dan (6-2, 200) was all league last year as a corner and will also be the top RB for Hart this year.
