The offensive line is a position of need in this years Trojan recruiting class and the coaching staff is scouring the entire country looking for prospects. Among those on the wish list include one of the best in the state of Florida, 6'5, 295 pound Brian Johnson of Tallahassee Godby.
Playing both guard and tackle, Johnson possesses great athleticism for a guy his size and he has the ability to play at either spot in college. As a junior, the big lineman received all-state and all-area honors as he dominated the line of scrimmage game after game. This past summer he attended the LSU Nike Camp and the "Down and Dirty" camp and impressed at both. Indicative of his athleticism, he runs a 5.0 40 yard dash, benches 390 pounds, squats 500 pounds, and is also excellent in the shot put and discus throw.
On the recruiting front, Johnson lists his favorites, in no order of preference, as "Miami, University of Florida, Southern Cal, Clemson, LSU, and Arkansas." He is taking into account a number of factors in making his college decision. His priorities include the "coaching staff, how much playing time I'm going to get going into my freshman year, and the academic programs." Not wanting to rush into anything, Johnson plans on taking all of his trips and has recently scheduled his first official visit for December 7 to USC. He also noted that Godby teammate, linebacker Edmond Miles, would also be making an official visit to USC at that time. Johnson also explained that Coach Lane Kiffen is recruiting him from the Trojan staff and that he believes he is being recruited as a Tackle.
Johnson's Godby squad is just coming off a 27-10 win over Lawton Chiles High School to improve to 2-2. Godby will face Gainesville High School next on Friday.
