Westlake vs Hart on Fox Sports Net

The Westlake Warriors and Hart Indians face off in a match-up of two of the top 10 ranked teams in Southern California. Westlake (2-0) features a pair of Trojan commits with Jimmy Miller and Michael Stuart while Hart (0-2) looks to break into the win column behind the play of QB Sean Norton. The game will be televised Thursday at 7:00 on Fox Sports Net.

Westlake advanced to the CIF Div 4 Finals last season before losing to Whitney Lewis and St. Bonaventure and this year might be a better Warrior team. Players to watch include:

QB Rudy Carpenter - transferred from Newbury Park in the off-season and is already being touted as potentially the best QB in Westlake history. Carpenter can make all the throws and runs well. He's a big USC fan who was named to the All-State underclass team last year.

TE/DE Jimmy Miller - Gave a verbal commitment to the Trojans during fall camp after an All-State year as a junior. Could play on either side of the ball with his size (245 pounds) and athletic ability.

WR/DE Michael Stuart - Committed to the Trojans this week to join his good friend Miller. Stuart has a long stride and excellent hands as a possession receiver.

MLB Greg Newman - Terrific hitter who has been offered scholarships by Colorado, Washington and Cal.

OL Ryan Sorenson - Another transfer from Newbury Park, Ryan anchors the huge Westlake OL.

The Indians had won four CIF Div 3 titles before moving to Div 2 last season and losing to Mission Viejo in the finals. They have dropped their first two games of the year to Los Alamitos and St Bonaventure. Among the top players for Hart this season:

#7 Sean Norton (QB) – Sean has an offer from Wyoming and put up almost 4,000 passing yards last season as the latest in the long line of successful quarterbacks at Hart. Suffered a sternum injury against Los Al but is expected to play.

#25 Kevin Ciccone (WR/DB) – A talented player who had 79 catches last season and can also star at corner. Kevin is a terrific route runner.

#72 Kevin Bell (RT) – Bell has good size (6-4, 265), moves well and has a 4.2 GPA.

#47 Brian Elledge (MLB) – Brian (6-3, 210) set a school record last season with 131 tackles.

#35 Dan Howell (RB/CB) – Dan (6-2, 200) was all league last year as a corner and will also be the top RB for Hart this year. Ran hard in the opener and broke several tackles from Randy Estes.
