We first told you about elite defensive end prospect Tamba Hali, of Teaneck High School (NJ), almost a month ago. Standing 6'4, 245 pounds and originally from Liberia, Hali is easily considered one of the most prized defensive ends in the nation with over 50 offers as proof. At the time of our prior conversation, he had yet to schedule any trips. I had an opportunity to speak with Hali tonight and he informed me that he has scheduled his first official visit, and it will take place VERY soon.
"I'm going to visit USC on Friday" stated Hali. His team has a bye this week so it offers the perfect opportunity to make a visit out to the West Coast. How did Hali become interested in USC? He answered that question as he explained "All of the schools from my side were talking to me and I told my coach, 'well, lets check on the other side'. So, he called them [USC] up and they watched my film." The rest is history. The Trojan coaches immediately picked up their recruitment of the New Jersey star. Hali is looking forward to the trip which will present many new sights, "I've never seen them play. I've never been to Cali. Everything will be new."
He also explained that he is still fairly open on his college decision and is still looking at everybody. Among the other schools he is considering are Penn State, Syracuse, Miami, Maryland, Tennessee, and many more. Although he hasn't scheduled any other official visits yet, he does know of two he plans on taking, "I know I'm going to visit Penn State and Syracuse."
Hali also gave some insight as to what he is looking for in the school he chooses, "I'm looking to start early and I want to get in there. If I don't start early, I want to get a chance to compete. I just don't want to come in and they say 'O.K., you redshirt.' I want to compete with these older guys and see where I stand."
On the topic of distance from home, he explained "I don't think location is any problem for me because I'm already from Africa. So, it's no problem. It's normal for me. I'm just looking for a great school."
Hali's Teaneck High School team is coming off a 20-13 loss to Montclair High School that dropped them to 2 – 1. In the loss, Hali was still dominant with over 10 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.
