Wednesday practice recap
Matt Leinart practiced today, sore ankle and all, and he had some good moments including a long pass downfield to Dominique Byrd. We didn't see a lot of Cassel or Hance, however, as John David Booty saw extensive action and looked very good. In fact, it was the best I've seen from John David in a Trojan uniform. He was on target with the majority of his throws and he seemed to run the offense well. The defense threw a lot of blitzes at him and he handled them with several completions by simply dumping the ball to the open receiver. He also hit some downfield passes. There was one impressive stretch of 5-6 plays where every ball was on the mark and went for a big gain. It remains to be seen what will happen on Saturday and for the next several weeks with the Trojan quarterback spot but it's fairly clear that John David Booty is ready to play. Leinart will more than likely be the starter this week, barring any drastic change in the status of his ankle, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of seeing John David in action against Stanford.
