Miles commits to Trojans

Lawrence Miles, a 6-3, 270 pound defensive lineman from La Quinta (Calif.) has been a huge USC lean for months now so it wasn't too surprising when the talented rush end decided to end the recruiting process and committed to the Trojans last night.

"I'm very excited, I'm pumped up," the normally mild mannered Miles said. "I've known for awhile I was going to commit to USC and I just decided there was no need to wait any longer. USC has everything I'm looking for. They have a great football program, great coaching staff, it's close to home and they're strong academically, what more could you want.

"I decided that the next time Coach (Ed) Orgeron (DL coach) called me, I was going to commit to him. When he called me last night, I told him I wanted to be a Trojan. He was excited and so was I. We didn't really talk too much about where I'll be playing. I think right now, I'll probably be on the edge but I know I'll get big enough to play inside as well and it doesn't matter to me."

Miles had set official visits to Washington, Oregon, Arizona and UCLA but isn't sure if he'll be making any of them right now.

"I think every kid wants to take his visits and have his fun," Miles said. "We didn't really discuss that either. If they don't want me to take them, I won't. I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize my spot at SC. That's another big reason I committed now. I knew I could have taken trips first but I also know SC is running out of scholarships and I didn't want to lose my spot and have to settle for second best." Top Stories
