Bumpus commits to Trojans

Michael Bumpus was looking at several schools but decided to end his recruitment on Saturday evening with a commitment to the USC Trojans and Head Coach Pete Carroll.

One of the best all-around athletes in the west this fall is Michael Bumpus (6'0", 185, 4,48 forty) out of Culver City High School in Culver City, California. Michael is rated the 15th best wide receiver in the country by The Insiders and has a 4-star ranking. Bumpus is known as a playmaker that is elusive and always around the ball. He was looking at several Pac Ten schools as well as Louisiana State, Miami, and Oklahoma this year, but decided to end his recruitment on Saturday evening with a commitment to the USC Trojans and Head Coach Pete Carroll.

Culver City ended the season with a 9-2-1 record. Bumpus played wide receiver until the 3rd game of the season when he took over at quarterback. He ended the season splitting time between the two positions on offense, as well as defensive back duties. Michael had approximately 800 yards rushing, 170 yards receiving, 160 yards passing, and 13 touchdowns overall on offense. To be fair to Bumpus, the QB play at Culver City this fall was not consistent. Michael's junior season is more reflective of his talents, as he had 75 receptions for 1,100 yards and 17 TD's. He also had 2 interceptions with one going for a touchdown on defense this season. Additionally. Bumpus punted for a 40-yard average. The coaches at USC recruited Bumpus for wide receiver, and that is where he is expected to appear on the depth chart next August.

Bumpus will be participating in the CaliFlorida All-Star Game on January 2nd at Moorpark College. To say he is fired up about his commit would be an understatement. He will start on-campus workouts on Monday, February 9th…the first Monday after signing day.
