Fred Davis attended his first USC class on Thursday and spent Friday afternoon buying his books for the spring semester. Fred was a guest on the Trojan Confidential radio show Friday night and he talked about decision he made to come to USC. He said it came down to the type of offense USC plays and the role of the wide receiver. Fred mentioned the success of Mike Williams and he said Mike was someone he called throughout the recruiting process. Davis started workouts with the team on Thursday and one strength and conditioning coach simply rolled his eyes when asked how athletic he was in early drills. Fred talked about the hometown pressure he faced to sign with the Buckeyes by saying he probably wouldn't be allowed back in Ohio. He said the decision was made last Thursday and he flew out three days later on Sunday. He liked the weather so far in Los Angeles and said the last time he wore shorts was in August.
Dwayne Jarrett and Derrick Jones are both still under consideration for the Trojans. Jarrett is expected to announce on signing day and it looks like it will be a close battle between USC and Ohio State. Jones is also expected to announce on signing day either at a press conference at Poly or on the Fox Sports West signing day show.
The status on the Michael Bumpus commitment is up in the air and in an interview today Michael said "I'm 90% sure I'll sign with USC...I just have to make sure I put myself in the best situation for me". The other wide receiver signees for the Trojans (and the potential to add even more) as well as qualifying concerns are two of the factors which have led to Bumpus considering other schools.
There is continued interest in Carson safety Chet Sanders, who gave a verbal to Washington recently. Sanders led his team to the City title this year after missing almost a full year with a broken leg suffered midway through his junior season. If he had been healthy in the off-season Chet would have been a much higher ranked prospect and this is a guy who could end up receiving an offer. If he gets it, chances are he will be a Trojan.
Rhyan Anderson is a interesting situation because it's so hard to get a read on which way he is leaning. Rhyan could commit to any one of a number of schools on his list and it wouldn't be a major surprise. We'll probably have to wait until signing day before knowing where he is going.
Eugene Germany seems to be genuinely torn between USC and Michigan right now. There is no denying his interest in USC but this one won't be over until he announces a decsion.
We'll know a lot more about the Rocky Hinds status when he returns from his visit to Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will be promising him the opportunity to come in and compete right away at QB while Rocky has some concerns about eventually being asked to change positions at USC. His heart is with USC and hopefully the cold weather in Lincoln this weekend will help convince the rest of his body that USC is the right place for him.
