Recruit to watch: QB Michael Coleman

Michael Coleman (6-1, 225) from Arroyo Valley HS is a player rapidly rising on the recruiting wish list. Michael threw for 1,171 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions as a junior and he also rushed for 710 yards and ten touchdowns.

We spoke with Michael this morning to get his thoughts on the process so far:

"It just makes me want to work harder when I get this kind of attention. Right now the strengths of my game are my feel for the game and the ability to make something happen at any time. No matter what's happening I'm going to try to make the play to help us win. I need to work on staying in the pocket longer and making more reads. I would say I pattern my game after a combination of Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb.

Right now I like USC, Notre Dame, Washington, Washington State and UNLV. I'm going to the Notre Dame camp this summer and the Nike Camp in San Diego.

I see my role for the team this year as a leader. This is the first full graduating class of four year seniors because we're a new school. I've got to be the leader, the General, the one who is laying down the rules. Before I gave respect to the seniors and let them be the leader but now it's my turn and I want to lead them to a CIF title."

Michael also throws the shot put 48 feet and his coach says "he is as good a person as he is a player". The coach also says "he loves to hit, he's the most physical quarterback I've ever had".
