Lakewood (CA) LB Luthur Brown II (6-2, 225, 4.7) says he favors USC (already visited unofficially) and Miami (childhood fave) just slightly over Arizona, Oklahoma and LSU. All have offered except Miami, as well as UCLA and Tennessee.

"I can play sideline-to-sideline and I think I'm better on the inside because I'm a bigger guy," said Brown. "I can also stuff plays up the middle. I have good speed and I'm aggressive.

"It's all or none. I just go out there and play. I think I need to get bigger and faster. But some colleges coaches tell me that I can go in and play right now.

"My SR year I'll also play some FB for the first time, but I won't be starting. I'm being recruited strictly as a LB. I had about 60 tackles last year and two interceptions.

"Kennedy Pola (now with the Cleveland Browns) gave me the first offer from USC last year when he was still coaching there. I went to some of their practices as a soph. It's not important that they were the first to offer.

"My dad would like to see me at USC because their degree would take me a lot of places. What he thinks will be a factor for me. Having a business degree from USC opens up a lot of opportunity. A lot of people and teachers from my school have graduated from USC.

"Miami has the best LBs and Ray Lewis was my favorite player. I've never been to the (state of) Florida. USC and Miami are recruiting me the hardest I would say.

"Arizona just got (Mike) Stoops from Oklahoma and he is known for putting together nice defenses so I'm sure he'll do that at Arizona. And Oklahoma always has a great defense too. I really haven't looked at LSU that much yet.

"I was born in Calif but I really grew up in Mississippi. I moved there when I was six. I came back to Calif when I was 14 and I live with my dad. My mom still lives in Mississippi and she would probably want me to play close to her. But I know she really just wants me to get a good education. My dad's strict on education too."

Luthur says he intends to attend the Adidas camp at UCLA on May 8. He's never been to the UCLA campus before.
