Shelton was one of the top tight ends at the recent USC skills camp although he slightly twisted his ankle and was unable to take part in the second half of the camp. He did not participate in the lineman camp the previous day because he was busy winning honors at the Nike Camp for his performance at defensive end. Michael is a tall, rangy athlete who is a natural at defensive end with his excellent speed coming off the end. He's enough of an athlete to get by at tight end but his skills will take him to the defensive side of the ball.
Right now colleges are recruiting him for defense and Michael isn't shy about making his preference known:
"I like defense, I like to hit".
Michael also played for the talented Dominguez basketball team this season, along with Rachal, and he said he learned a lot from Chilo about how to work.
"He works hard at everything he does. He's a big part of me liking SC. He goes hard every down, every play. He knows what other guys are gonna do and I try to follow that. At Dominguez we watch a lot of film and I got into the habit of watching film to the point where I will take game films home to break them down even more."
