Jackson gets USC offer

The Long Beach Poly football program has long been a prime recruiting target for the Trojans and this year is no exception as USC has offered a scholarship to Jackrabbit receiver Desean Jackson (5-9, 165). Click below for an update on his recruiting status:

Jackson (5-9, 165) is a phenomenal athlete with terrific speed and good hands. He was the top receiver at the recent USC skills camp and it was his performance at that camp which pushed him over the edge in terms of an offer from the Trojan coaches.

"I went to the SC camp to get a feel for how they run things. I'm not in too much good shape for football right now because I'm in baseball season and I just wanted to work on some little things before the Stanford Nike Camp. I had a pretty good day and when I talked to the coaches on the phone a few days after that they offered me a scholarship. I talked with Coach Orgeron, he's my recruiting coordinator, and then pretty much all the coaches got on the phone.

"When they offered me I was really happy. It was one that I was waiting for. I'm not ready to commit right now but I'm really going to consider their offer. They've got a lot of big receivers but nobody like me who is quick and can go under the middle. I've got to take that into consideration."

Last season Desean caught 43 passes for 850 yards and 11 touchdowns and was named first team all-state underclass. He is also a good baseball prospect who has been on the varsity at Poly since he was a freshman. Desean is a center fielder who is currently hitting .380 with 19 stolen bases and he says he definitely wants to play both sports at the college level.

"Before I got off the phone with Pete Carroll he said "another thing, I want you to play baseball for USC". He said they have a couple other guys who play both sports and he is encouraging me to do both."

Desean currently has offers from USC, Michigan, Cal, Nebraska, Pitt and Arizona. He says he will take his trips before making a final decision.
