May recruiting update

We're halfway through the May evaluation period and there is a picture emerging of the top targets on the USC wish list for the Class of 2005. Click below for a position by position update. This list will be updated next month following the completion of the evaluation period and spring camps.

QB (1)

Mark Sanchez – Mission Viejo (CA)
Ryan Perrilloux – East St. John (LA)
Kyle Reed - McClymonds (CA)
William Tuitama – St Mary's (CA)

Sanchez got a recent USC offer although he is still claiming to be open. In an interview this week with Allen Wallace his father said Mark will take a trip this summer to see many schools but he admitted that it would be tough to turn away from USC with all that is going on with the Trojans right now…...Reed claims an offer from the Trojans although his parents are pushing for Cal, the local school who has also offered.....Tuitama has a strong arm and an offer from Nebraska…Perriloux received an early offer from USC but he seems to be looking elsewhere lately.

RB (2 TB, 1 FB)

Maurice Wells – Sandalwood, FL
Marlon Lucky – North Hollywood, CA
Quaddir Brown – Elsinore, CA
Prince Hall – Moreno Valley, CA
George Hypolite – Loyola, CA
Pat Roxas – Orange Lutheran, CA

In an interview this week Wells listed USC as the first school among his 11 official offers and he has also received a call from the Trojan coaches this month. His father is in the military and he has only lived in Florida for four years and is open to leaving the state….Lucky recently received an offer from the Trojan coaches and he told Wallace last week that he is 90% headed to USC over LSU, Mississippi State, Washington and others.

WR (2)

Desean Jackson – LB Poly (CA)
Derrick Williams – Roosevelt (MD)
Fred Rouse – Lincoln (FL)
Nyan Boateng – Lincoln (NY)
Leon Jackson – Pasco (WA)
Jessie Hester – Wellington (FL)
Austin Usher – Jefferson (CA)
David Gettis – Dorsey (CA)

Desean Jackson parlayed an impressive performance at the USC skills camp into a Trojan scholarship offer. He's got tremendous quickness and hands with a different style of play from the other receivers on the roster…..Derrick Williams has over 40 offers at last count and says he will be considering the Trojans….. The Trojans probably are a longshot with Rouse, the hometown Seminoles are considered the heavy favorite, but he is enough of a talent that we will stick with him…..

TE (1)

DajLeon Farr – North Shore (TX)
Edward Dickson – Bellflower (CA)
James McKinney – Central (KY)
Tony Moeaki – Warrensville South (IL)
Erik Lorig – Peninsula (CA)
Ryan Moya – Oak Ridge (CA)
Vic So'oto – Carlsbad (CA)
Lance Bordeleau – Royal (CA)

Farr is a top national recruit and the Trojan coaches have made a push in recent weeks…..Dickson, Lorig, Moya and Soto were part of an impressive tight end group that took part in the recent USC skills camp….Moeaki had a brother, John, who played at BYU while Norm Chow was an assistant at the school…..McKinney was an early verbal commit to Michigan who has now changed his mind and said he wants to also look at USC, Miami and Oklahoma in addition to the Wolverines….Dickson looks to be a USC vs UCLA battle

OL (3)

Dace Richardson – Warrensville South (IL)
Eugene Monroe – Plainfield (NJ)
Dan Doering – Barrington (IL)
Charles Brown – Diamond Ranch (CA)
Nick Howell – Bullard (CA)
Rodney Picou – Canyon Springs (CA)
Kevin Bemoll – Mission Viejo (CA)

Richardson is one of the fastest rising players on the wish list. The Southern California native has tremendous size to go along with his good footwork and the Trojans are expected to be among his top schools along with Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma…..Monroe and Doering are two of the top national recruits on the offensive line as well and it will be a tough battle for either guy but the good news for Trojan fans is that we are in on both players right now….Brown earned a scholarship offer after taking part in the USC skills camp as a tight end. He attended the Trojan summer camp last year as an offensive lineman and that is his likely position in college…..Howell saw his stock rise after a solid showing at the USC lineman camp

DL (2)

Ekom Udofia – Chapparal (AZ)
Averell Spicer – Rancho Cucamonga (CA)
Melvin Alaeze – Randallstown (MD)
Callahan Bright – Hamilton (PA)
Fevaa'l Ahmu – Serra (CA)
Bernard Afutiti – Kaiser (CA)
Walker Ashley – Eden Prairie (MN)
Nick Reed – Mission Viejo (CA)
Ryan Williams – Mission Viejo (CA)
Michael Shelton – Dominguez (CA)

Udofia was one of the first players the USC coaches stopped by to check on during the May evaluation period with a visit to his school. Ekom will likely be a competition between USC and Stanford and he has offers from both schools….Spicer was the top d-lineman at the recent USC line camp and he earned an offer shortly after that. Known as a DE who will likely shift to DT in college, Averell has offers from USC, UCLA and Florida State among others….Alaeze has offers from USC, Maryland and Boston College….Bright wants to get out of the state and play at a warm weather school. He has offers from all the top programs in the country including the Trojans….

LB (3)

Luthur Brown – Lakewood (CA)
Adrian McCovey – Lakewood (CA)
Tray Blackmon – LaGrange (GA)
Ryan Reynolds – Bishop Gorman (NV)
Neefy Moffett – Palm Bay (FL)
Todd Cox – Harding (TN)
Rey Muaulaga – Eureka (CA)
Brian Cushing – Bergen Catholic (NJ)
Luke Laolagi – Birmingham (CA)
Reynard Camp – Lincoln (CA)

Brown and McCovey are both still very interested in the Trojans. Brown will also consider Miami in addition to Oklahoma, Arizona and LSU. McCovey, who showed good athleticism at the USC skills camp, has UCLA and Arizona as his other top choices…..Blackmon has the sideline to sideline pursuit skills that would fit well in the Pete Carroll defense. He is being recruited by most of the big schools in the South but says that he wants to take a trip to USC….Reynolds, Moffett and Cox are other top out of state targets.…Rey Muaulaga will attend the Trojan summer camp

DB (2 CB, 1 S)

Justin King – Gateway (PA)
Kevin Thomas – Rio Mesa (CA)
Robert Peele – Edison (CA)
Darryl Crummie – Dominguez (CA)
Cary Harris – Notre Dame (CA)
Xavier Hicks – Fullerton (CA)
Syd Thompson – Grant (CA)
C.J. Byrd – North Augusta (SC)
Will Harris – Charter Oak (CA)
Reggie Smith – Santa Fe (OK)
Ferrari Welch – Sweetwater (CA)
Adam Myers-White – Hamilton (OH)

King could be considered the top prospect on the overall wish list if you consider his talent and the importance of landing a top corner in this class. Justin is listing USC among his top 3 along with Michigan and Penn State and says he will attend summer camps for both the Trojans and Wolverines…..Thomas was one of the top performers at the skills camp as a corner and he is currently listing USC and Cal as his favorites…..Adam Myers-White has shown interest in the Trojans and he is considered one of the top prospects in the midwest

K (1-2)

Troy Van Blarcom – Orange Lutheran (CA)

Val Blarcom was the top kicker at the USC skills camp and his performance was enough to convince the Trojan coaches to offer a scholarship. Troy quickly accepted and became the first verbal commit for this class….It remains to be seen if the Trojans will recruit a punter this year. A talented walk-on, All-State punter Taylor Odegard from Washington, is scheduled to arrive in the fall to back-up Tom Malone
