LA Valley College defensive end Rashaad Goodrum has given a verbal committment to the USC Trojans for the 2004 season although he has yet to receive final word on his qualifying status.

"I'm going to go to SC. It was between SC and Washington, but I want to stay in California and go to SC."

Goodrum took his final exam on Wednesday and his grade in that class will determine his eligiblity for this fall.

"If I pass the test, I pass the class and I'm eligible."

Goodrum originally signed a letter of intent to play this fall for the University of Washington but when he failed to earn his AA the first time around he became a recruitable athlete again.

"Washington pretty much told me I had a starting position. SC told me I'd have a chance to compete. I'm not afraid to compete for anything. I know my abilities and what I can do. I've seen Washington and I've seen SC. SC seems closer to winning a championship, which is what I want to do. I also feel USC is a good place to prepare me for the NFL and go there with a championship under my belt."
