Recruiting Weekend update

Notes and tidbits from the recent recruiting weekend including a possible verbal commitment and a new defensive lineman on the recruiting wish list.

Saturday update

Ronnie Nunn, Jason Mitchell and Danny Urquhart were there this weekend among the JC guys but Van Brown had yet to arrive.

Fred Matua seems very comfortable with the Trojan staff (particularly Kennedy Pola) and the word is that the home visit last week did a lot to push him in our direction. A potential verbal from Matua to come out of this weekend would be exactly the type of recruiting news the coaches are looking for heading into the bowl game, we will be following up tomorrow night for any news.

Justin Wyatt also came up for the day and brought with him a DL who could end up as a surprise on the USC wish list. La Juan Ramsey is a six three, two hundred sixty pound DE from Dominguez who caught the eye of the Trojan coaches while they were scouting Justin.

Sunday update

Van Brown did make it in on Sunday so we'll have to wait until tomorrow to try and reach him to confirm a possible verbal.

Nate Robinson was also on the trip and spent the day at the basketball game today. He is smaller than anticipated and qualifying is a concern but he is very interested in the Trojans.

Several juniors from Taft HS were at practice on Sunday including Steve Smith and Noah Smith (no relation). Former Taft QB Brandon Hance was at Saturday practice and is close to Steve Smith so a possible offer to Hance would only help the Trojans chances with the All American two way/two sport star.

There are reports that Jason Mitchell committed and that would be a real good pick up for the Trojans but we havent spoken to Jason and do not confirm verbals until we have a quote from the player.

Justin Wyatt and LaJuan Ramsey were at practice again today.

other news:

Derek Landri was reported this week to be interested in taking trips to other schools but now that the Irish have announced they will be retaining several key assistants Landri has firmed up his commitment to Notre Dame.

Lorenzo Booker said his trip to Washington now puts the Huskies as his leader but when all is said and done the Trojans are still very much in the hunt for the All American RB.
