"The coaches came to my house on Monday night and I committed to them then," said Ellison. "I like the opportunity I have to play early there because they are pretty thin at safety. I really like the coaching staff, too. My parents are real happy for me."
Ellison had already visited Arizona, Colorado, and Oregon State. He was set to visit Cal this weekend but that visit has now been cancelled. "I called those other schools to let them know and they were all pretty disappointed. Oregon State definitely finished second for me and it is not just because my brother goes there. I really liked their staff and program."
The safety is a player that Scout.com saw at a couple camps last summer. Ellison has good quickness, size, and knowledge of the game. His main attribute is his instinct on the field. He is always around the ball. Ellison is one of those guys that is just a football player, plain and simple. He knows the game and he loves the game.
USC has not specified what safety position Ellison will be lining up at. "They rotate their safeties so I will be playing all over the field."
The Redondo Union star becomes the seventh known commitment for the 2005 class. He finished the year with 1,700 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns. On defense, he had 115 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles.
Union lost in the quarter-finals to St. Francis.
Ellison carries a 3.0 core GPA and scored a 1020 on his SAT. He is undecided on a major.
