Friday practice update

The word for the day was rain as the Trojans got a full blast of South Florida weather during the Friday practice. It didn't slow down the preparations though as the team stayed on the field throughout the downpours that came and went during the day.

Not much has changed on the injury front. LenDale White was dressed and got in some light agility work but didn't take part in any of the team drills portion of practice. LenDale is saying the ankle feels good enough to play but that he is still experiencing some soreness when trying to make cuts. If he can get is come contact work during the next few days he should be OK for the Orange Bowl but at this point it sure would be nice to see him out there getting a full workout. John Drake had an excellent practice, he received a lot of praise from the coaches during a run drill and had a great stop of Mike Patterson during a one on one pass block drill. Manuel Wright was dressed and tried some light work at the beginning of the day but didn't take part in any of the team drills. Eric Wright slipped in coverage during a passing drill while it was raining and he held his left knee while the trainers took a look. Eric came right back to action and blocked a field goal attempt during the next drill and was covering receivers fine for the rest of the day.

We saw Desmond Reed and David Kirtman get a lot of work with White sitting out. Reed had one play where he put a shake move on Jeff Schweiger that left Jeff grasping at air and all the other RB's came over to congratulate Desmond after the play, it was a very nice move. Kirtman was running hard and pounding into would-be tacklers......As is his habit Pete Carroll was throwing balls during a skeleton passing drill and Matt Grootegoed picked him off twice......Drew Radovich went through the whole practice.....Ryan Killeen seemed to be kicking well in the rain and was making several long kicks.....LaJuan Ramsey batted down a Leinart pass at the line of scrimmage.....One Leinart pass attempt fluttered in the rain and several of the defensive players commented on the duck-like pass by yelling "AFLAC".....There were plenty of notable observers at practice including Frank Gifford, Rod Dedeaux, Tommy Lasorda and Nick Lachey.

The team will make a visit to Dimaggio Childrens Hospital this afternoon before resuming practice tomorrow at noon.
