The Trojans head into the final weekend of recruiting while riding a wave of good feeling from their recent successes. Of course, this weekend sees an official visit from one of the biggest remaining prizes in the recruiting sweepstakes as St. Bonaventure RB Lorenzo Booker will trip to USC and there is hope that a positive visit will push the talented runner to the Trojans.
Booker has been on visits to Florida State, Washington and Notre Dame and following each trip he has responded in glowing terms about the school so it is safe to say that Lorenzo is a young man who has enjoyed the experienced of recruiting and all the perks that come with it. For recruiting fans of those schools who have followed his every word it has been a wild ride to keep up with his favorites but there is a lot pointing him toward the Trojans and the presence of family and friends will play an important role in his decision. Lorenzo has made it clear that he will not announce a final choice until signing day but Pete Carroll and his staff will have the final shot at making a positive impression and they have done a fairly decent job lately of convincing some pretty good football players that USC is the place to be.
Booker will not be the only prized recruit on the trip at Lincoln (FL) safety Pat Watkins will make a visit as well. Watkins was long scheduled for this trip that was supposed to include his Lincoln teammates Gavin Dickey and Greg Threat but both of those players are verbal commits to other schools. Pat is considered one of the top best safeties in the country, along with rumored USC verbal Darnell Bing, and Watkins would certainly be a jewel to add in this class but he is considered to be a strong lean to either FSU or Miami and it would have to be considered a longshot for the Trojans. He will make the visit with his parents and he enjoyed his trip to California for the CA vs FL All Star game so you never know what might happen once he is here. It remains to be seen if another Lincoln star, WR James White, will make the trip. White is a talented player who will likely go to JC and is considering schools in the LA area.
In addition to the players who will be in this weekend, the Trojans are waiting to hear from a few other top prospects to help finalize the class. Fred Matua is a lineman who is vital and he is taking a look at schools like Oklahoma and Notre Dame before making his final choice. Aaron Miller is a cornerback we would love to add but at this point it appears that Oklahoma has the edge over the Trojans and Bruins. Talented return man Nate Robinson has yet to announce a final choice between USC and UW while DE Ricky Parker is still considered a verbal commit to ASU but this is one that may not be over.
