It's amazing how much recruiting is going on between players for other players in this game. Guys are openly yelling for other guys to come to the same school as them and one of the good signs has been Mark Sanchez spending time with Patrick Turner (photo). There is no doubt that Patrick is the real deal and most people around the practice today seem to think that it will be SC but there are also plenty of folks who think he is headed to Tennessee so this will be another tight one. Patrick clearly has the Trojans ahead in his mind but the home school factor was played up big to him on his recent visit to the Vols and it had an impact.
I also talked to one family friend of the Cushing's and they said if things go well for Brian (photo, right) on the SC trip that he could easily see an SC commit. Brian will be making the visit with his mother, the parents would prefer for Brian to be closer to home but they are clear in that it will be his decision. One of the top junior corners in New Jersey, who will be taking part in the combine this weekend, is also a big-time SC fan and he says people call him a Matt Grootegoed type player.
Speculation is that Ekom Udofia is down to USC and Stanford although he made the comment to one person about his injury "if I get hurt again a Stanford degree is sure nice to have". An SC one isn't too bad either Ekom.
I talked to the DB coach for the West team and he was very impressed with Kevin Thomas. He says he's been very athletic for his size and has shown good cover ability.
