One of the top recruits in the area next year will be Colton HS two-way star Allen Bradford. Allen (6-2, 220) plays both RB and LB for the Yellowjackets but it is expected that he will be a LB at the college level. I talked with his coach, Harold Strauss, to get an update on his recruiting status:

"Allen is just one of those kids who is special. He's just a man out there on the football field and he's a great person off the field. He's been a four year starter for us on defense and I can't remember another four year starter in the 26 years that I've been associated with the school. He was named All-League as a freshman. He started on both sides of the ball as a sophomore and was named All-CIF and All-State underclass. As a junior he was named All-CIF on both sides of the ball and was named to the All-State underclass team again.

I would describe Allen as a hitter. He hits you on both sides of the ball. He's explosive on defense but on offense he will just run right through you. On defense, he's fast enough to play safety but big enough to be an outside linebacker. He was timed at 4.57 last year in the 40 and we've clocked him here at 4.50 so he's got the speed. He also plays with a lot of intensity, he's got no problem speaking up at a key time or asking for the ball in a big situation.

He was named as a captain of the team as a sophomore and that was the first time a non-senior had ever been elected captain. He was elected for the role again as a junior but he turned it down and said it should go to a senior. That's the kind of person he is. He gets that from his parents, they are separated but they are close and very involved with his life. His father has a Fatburger franchise in Lancaster and he's planning on opening up a couple more in this area. Whenever he comes to town he sleeps on the couch in his ex-wife's house, that's how close they are. They keep an eye on him. When Allen wanted to go to a party his dad grabbed the keys and said "I'll be your driver, let's go".

Right now Allen has been offered by Mississippi and UCLA says they are close to offering. He got a letter in the mail today from USC and they want him to come to their camp. He's also hearing from Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, all the Pac-10 schools. He likes the West Coast and he's an SC guy. With the way SC is playing right now every kid likes them. He also wants to take a look at the Bay Area schools. He's got a 3.0 GPA and he'll be taking the SAT this spring so it shouldn't be a problem for him to qualify. He will also attend the Nike Camp at USC."
