"I want to win"

Irvine (Calif.) defensive end Alex Parsons (6-5, 260, 4.7) said he now favors USC (offer) solidly over UCLA (offer), Oregon, Notre Dame and Arizona (offer). He also recently received offers from Arizona State and Utah.

"I'd say there is an 80% chance I'll end up at USC, even though I'm still open. They've won two national championships in a row and that makes me really want to go there because my high school hasn't won many games and I don't want to go to a losing program. I want to win.

"The coaching staff at USC is also great and I loved it at their one-day camp when I went there. They were strict and hard on us, but also very nice. Coach (Pete) Carroll is also very nice and down-to-earth, which I didn't expect because he has won so much. I told Carroll I would still take my official visits. He's recruiting me personally.

"UCLA and USC are recruiting me the hardest. I really like the location at UCLA and I like coaches (Karl) Dorrell and (Larry) Kerr (def coord/linebackers). They've been very nice to me.

"I also like Oregon, Notre Dame and Arizona. Oregon has won more Pac-10 games I think than any other team in the league except USC, the last few years, I think.

"Notre Dame is so prestigious and they are a great program. I don't know much about them, but they rarely lose.

"I visited Arizona a couple of years ago with my brother (B. Jay Parsons), who's going to be a senior defensive end at Kentucky, but visited Arizona. He was coming out of junior college. The Arizona campus was very nice and everything was very beautiful, I thought. Coach Kasey Dunn (running backs) is really a nice guy.

"My mom will be a big factor in my decision, but she doesn't prefer any school. She says it won't bother her if I go far away, either.

"I'll decide after taking at least three official visits.
