"The Place to Go"

California running back/defensive back C.J. Gable (6-1, 190, 4.5) said USC now leads heavily over Washington, Miami, LSU, Florida and Oklahoma. All have offered according to Gable.

"My mom and I have really been looking at USC as the place to go lately," said Gable, from Sylmar High School in Sylmar.

"She likes the fact that it's close to home and their academic facilities would enable me to learn better there also. They also have a great architecture program.

"Right now, they've got a big lead, and if I had to say it, there's about an 80% chance that I'll be going there," he said.

"I like how USC allows their true freshmen to start early if they're good enough to, and I've just got to go out there and show them what I can do. They're recruiting me for both positions, RB and DB, along with most of the schools on my list. I don't have a preference on a position in college. I'll play anywhere.

"Washington has really started to climb in there as well. I'd say that they're my #2 school right now. I wasn't really looking into them, but I've spoken with my friend, Dre Simpson, (cornerback) lately and he's really been convincing me to check it out more. I know Dre from Sylmar. He's older than me, but he's always been a friend and he's always been real cool to me," said Gable.

"Miami is #3 right now. I just like the way they run everything there, and I like their man defense. If I were to go there, I'd probably play defense.

"I'm still interested in LSU, Oklahoma and Florida. I haven't set up any official visits yet, but I'm in the process of getting it done. I'd like to get them all set up before the first game of the season.

"Out of my list of schools, I don't know who won't be getting a visit from me at this time."

Sylmar High takes on Palisades at Palisades in the first game of their regular season on September 9.
