Carroll agrees to contract extension

Trojan head coach Pete Carroll has agreed to a contract extension with the University. Terms of the extention were not disclosed, USC is a private university and is not required to release details of coaching contract extensions, but Carroll said "this is a good time for this" as he continued to hear rumors about a possible move to the NFL.

The press release regarding the contract extension was sent out Wednesday night with the following quote from USC athletic director Mike Garrett:

"We love what Pete is doing here. He does a great job of winning games and graduating players. Pete wants to be at USC as long as he can and we want him here, too."

Carroll talked about his conversation with Garrett and the resulting extension:

"We talked today - we had a nice little talk today. We've been on a great wavelength. I haven't been anywhere five years before. I've been a mercenary coach my whole life. I've talked with Mike. We're in great shape for the future. This is a good time for this. There'll be a tremendous amount of movement in the NFL a week from now."

There had been increasing media reports recently regarding Carroll, including one from Chris Mortensen of ESPN who said that Carroll was sending out feelers for NFL job offers.
