Wilson has California ties

With 21 offers pouring in from schools around the nation, it's fair to say that offensive lineman James Wilson of St. Augustine Nease HS will have his choice of top programs. But Wilson has not always the top prospect at Nease, that honor went to 2006 Florida signee Tim Tebow.

Once Tebow had signed his letter of intent to play for the University of Florida, Wilson saw all eyes turn towards him. Wilson has received mail from nearly all of the top programs in the country, but does admit that a few schools are recruiting him harder then the others.

"Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Florida are recruiting me the hardest right now."

And although these programs have impressed Wilson early on, he admits that it may be too early to limit his list of schools.

"I'll probably wait until the end of spring to limit things down. I'm real open now."

For USC, it has been very tough to sign a prospect out of Florida with such intense pressure from the in-state schools. But Wilson does have a connection to Southern California that may influence his decision.

"Distance won't play a factor in my decision at all. My father lives out in Los Angeles, and he just moved there from Bakersfield. It would most definitely be easier with the support of my family out there. And that will be in my mind when it comes time to make a decision."

Not only does Wilson list the Trojans as one of his top schools, but he has kept in touch with one coach in particular at SC.

"Oh most definitely, I'm interested in SC. I actually talked to Coach Ruel today. He just talked about how he is coming down to watch me in the Spring. We are mainly talking about me playing guard at this point. He tells me how excited he is to meet me, and how excited I am to meet him. I will be out there for a one day camp in the Summer, and I will stay with my father while I'm out there."

When asked what stood out to him about USC, he responded.

"The tradition. Also Coach Carroll and Coach Ruel's coaching styles. I mean, it's one of the greatest cities in the world. Everything is pretty much great about SC."

Wilson has been working very hard in the off season, and feels that there are a few things that separate his game from others at his same position.

"Me being 300 lbs. and pretty quick. I mainly just use my athleticism to dominate and get around quick. I'm training and working on my feet and speed, and I just want to continue to get stronger."

While Wilson plans on taking all of his trips, he has mentioned one common theme amongst the schools he is interested in.

"All of the schools I'm looking at have a great education. I want to give everybody a look and make the right decision."
