Recruit to watch: RB Jason Evans

WeAreSC.com spoke with big-time running back Jason Evans out of Kennesaw Harrison High School in Georgia, which is just north of Atlanta. Jason is a national recruit who measures in at 6'1" and 185 pounds. He runs a sizzling 4.4 forty, has a 36" vertical, and currently benches a max of 255 pounds. Jason had the following update…

First, let me say that one will not find a more polite and courteous young man than Jason. Currently he is working out and practicing with his high school team in preparation for the upcoming season. When asked what schools he is looking at, he mentioned Penn State, Boston College, Texas A&M, Stanford, and USC in no particular order. He recently visited Penn State and also has been to Stanford and Texas A&M. All have offered from that group except for USC. SC has been in touch with Jason, as a few different coaches have been in contact, most recently during the May evaluation period. Jason has not decided if he will visit USC, as he would like to make his college decision before the start of his high school season. He mentioned his parents will support any college choice he makes.

Speaking of his parents, Jason's father Terry Evans played for the Seattle Seahawks. His brother Brandon currently plays football at Northwestern. In fact, Jason missed the most recent Nike Camp because of attending his brother's spring game in Evanston. Jason has not been to any camps this year, but he did attend a passing league at Auburn. Evans plays both ways as he racked-up 1,350 yards rushing last season with a 10.7 yard per carry average. He also had 15 touchdowns. On defense, he plays cornerback and had 40 tackles with 4 interceptions. When asked who his running style resembles, Jason mentioned Eddie George as he can run around, or over defenders. Jason is being recruited for offense. In the spring, Evans runs track as he long-jumps, and runs the 100, 200, and 400 meters. He has long-jumped 22 feet 8 inches. His best time in the 100 is 10.8, in the 200 is 22.5, and in the 400 is 49.0 seconds.

Evans has lived in Georgia for 6 years, but will probably end up leaving the state for school. He would like to play tail back, and on special teams, returning kicks in college. He has actually never been to Southern California, but still has considerable interest in USC. When asked what he likes about USC, he mentioned the schools tradition and location. He would like to major in communications. Jason is fully qualified as he currently has a 3.7 GPA and has a good score on his SAT, but wants to improve on it by retaking the SAT. His current SAT score is well above the minimum for qualifying.
