USC has awarded a scholarship to high school defensive lineman Travis Tofi of American Samoa, who will be eligible this season and will join the Trojans in training camp next month. Tofi (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) also was recruited by Oregon and Utah this spring before selecting USC. He already has moved to Southern California. Also, Long Beach Poly defensive lineman Manuel Wright did not meet the necessary test-score requirements and will not attend USC this season. Wright is expected to continue taking the SAT in the fall with the hope of enrolling at USC in January. His teammate, running back Hershel Dennis, received a qualifying score this month. Junior-college transfers Daniel Urquhart (defensive end) and Ryan Killeen (kicker) have met academic requirements and will play this season, which means all of USC's junior-college recruits will be eligible.
