Trojans visit Martez Wilson

Pete Carroll, Lane Kiffin and Brennan Carroll stopped by Simeon HS today to check on Martez Wilson and WeAreSC caught up with Wilson to get an update on his thoughts on that visit and where the Trojans stand with this talented athlete.

So what is new in regards to recruiting with you, any new offers or any new schools showing interest?

The latest offers I got were from Central Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Nebraska. It feels good to get these offers, and knowing what the coaches think of me.

How do you feel you performed at the Ohio State Camp last week?

I think I did okay, everybody told me I was doing real good, and that I had good footwork. Most schools are recruiting me for rush end or outside linebacker. I have no preference as long as I am making an impact.

Now I know that coaches are beginning to make their rounds to high school campuses, what schools have been by to see you?

SC was here today. Also Wisconsin, Central Michigan, Northern Iowa, Nebraska, UCLA too.

Now which SC coaches came out to watch you?

Pete Carroll and his son (Brennan Carroll) came out with Lane Kiffin. I was playing receiver when they saw me work out.

What was that like knowing that they were there to watch you?

It was a real good feeling knowing that I'm getting recruited by a program with that tradition, it felt real good.

What are your feelings about SC, and where would SC rank amongst your list of favorites?

There is serious interest. The tradition, as far as academics I'm looking into that too. Coach Carroll has a good winning percentage, and they did not redshirt one out of state freshman last year.

Do you have a top three list of schools?

I'm open right now, I should have a solid list sometime in June.

Is there one school on top for you right now?

I'm free to everyone right now, every school is a favorite. And distance will not be a factor. Actually, I would surely go on an official visit to SC during the season if I don't get to make it out there this summer. I will go out to SC on an unofficial if my father will pay for it.

Which schools are recruiting you the hardest?

Ohio State, Notre Dame, SC, Michigan, and Iowa are recruiting me the hardest so far.

Do you have a timetable for your decision?

Actually, I'm going to make a commitment after the season.

What camps will you be attending this summer?

I'm not sure, I might go to a few camps. Just to check out the campuses and get a feel for the schools I'm looking at.
