Recruit to watch: LB Thomas Williams

WeAreSC.com spoke with heralded linebacker prospect Thomas Williams out of Vacaville High School, which is 30 miles west of Sacramento. Thomas is 6'2 1/2", 227 pounds, and runs a 4.55 forty. He has a vertical leap of 32" and currently benches a max of 355 pounds. He passed along the following update.

Williams is a versatile linebacker as he can play both the middle and SAM spots, as he seems to prefer the outside, which is where he will be playing this fall. Last season he racked-up 85 tackles, 8 sacks, and 3 interceptions. Thomas also played fullback last season of offense, and will be learning the tight-end position for the upcoming season to take advantage of his superior size and speed. He was All-County and All-League in football as a junior. Williams has missed many of the football camps because he also plays baseball. This past spring he hit .422 with 10 stolen bases, and 3 home runs playing left field, which was good enough to garner honorable mention All-League honors. He would like to play baseball in college as USC has shown an interest to let him play both.

There are several schools which Williams has an interest in as he mentioned in no particular order; Miami, USC, UCLA, Arizona, ASU, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington. Currently, there is not one favorite(s) that stands out as he will take all 5 visits and announce a decision when the time is right. Thomas did want to mention that USC has shown the most interest. He is being recruited to play linebacker in college. He attended the one-day camp at USC in late April and also went briefly to the Trojan Huddle spring game. Williams also attended the UNLV team camp. The coaches that have been in touch with him from SC are coach's Holt, Davis, and Carroll.

When asked what current player his style of play emulates, Williams mentioned Ray Lewis, as he is a big hitter who plays sideline to sideline. His football hero is Walter Payton. He would like to major in the health field in Sports Therapy. Thomas currently has a 3.67 GPA and has passed his SAT, as he is fully qualified.
